
Be Informed. Be Prepared.
To ensure the UCI community is informed and prepared to respond to and recover from any emergency or disaster event impacting our campus, and to ensure the safety and sustainment of our students, staff, faculty and visitors please review the checklist items below.
- Be familiar with UCI’s emergency alert system, zotALERT.
- Register yourself to receive zotALERT messages.
- Be familiar with Alertus Emergency Alert Beacons located in lecture halls. Anytime UCI Police Department (UCIPD) issues a campus zotALERT, the beacon will make an audible sound, have flashing lights, and the text of the zotALERT can be seen on the screen.
- Be familiar and know how to use ‘Text to 9-1-1’ to communicate with UCIPD and other local first responders.
- Ensure you are able to monitor UCI Emergency Updates website for the most up-to-date information during an emergency.
- Ensure you are able to monitor emergency communications via social media at twitter.com/ucirvine, instagram.com/ucirvine, or facebook.com/ucirvine.
- Review and be familiar with UCI Emergency Response Procedures.
- Review and be familiar with UCI Evacuation Terminology and Protective Actions.
- Review and be familiar with UCI Evacuation Signage
- Know Your Zone Sign - Signage placed outdoors across campus indicating zone information.
- Assembly Area Sign - Signage placed at the assembly area locations across campus.
- Emergency Evacuation Sign - Signage placed indoors indicating zone information.
- Use the Emergency Evacuation Sign to locate your building’s fire alarm pull station and fire extinguisher locations.
- Use the Emergency Evacuation Sign to review emergency exit route(s) inside the building. Emergency exit routes should be indicated in green.
- Use the Emergency Evacuation Sign to locate any stairwells that may be inside of the building.
- Locate and familiarize yourself with the evacuation stair chair on your floor. Please contact your Building Facility Manager if you cannot locate the evacuation stair chair on your floor. Only multilevel buildings are equipped with evacuation stair chairs.
- Review UCLC Stair Chair Training.
- Arrange for an evacuation stair chair demonstration with your Building Facility Manager.
- Review the Stryker Evacuation Stair Chair Instructions on how to use an emergency evacuation chair.
- Add UCIPD’s emergency phone number, 9-1-1, to your mobile phone and name it “UCIPD 911 Emergency” for quick reference.
